Sappi, a South African paper company specializing in coated fine paper, has teamed up with BASF and Eurofins to launch Mineral Oil Barrier (MOB) coated papers - MOB Kraft and MOB Gravure, for food packaging.

According to the company, these flexpack grade help reduce contaminant migration issues, while allowing the use of sustainable, recycled materials.

MOB Kraft and MOB Gravure protect the contents from mineral oil compounds that comprise saturated hydrocarbons (MOSH) and unsaturated hydrocarbons (MOAH), which is believed to be a carcinogenic compound.

Combining Machine Glazed Bleached Kraft (MGBK) paper with the MOB barrier on the reverse side, the MOB Kraft for inner bags is available in 80gsm to 120gsm.

Designed for gravure printed primary packaging such as pouches, sachets, MOB Gravure is available in 95gsm to 140gsm, with a blade coating on the top side for gravure printability and the MOB barrier on the reverse side.

Launched at FachPack 2013 event, the MOB Kraft and MOB Gravure are ideal for sugar, chocolate and confectionery, coffee and tea, crisps, snacks and nuts, dried and dehydrated foods and frozen food and ice cream packaging.
